Reminiscing Transiently

Forgive me for being a little late in my post-concert reflections. It seems so strange that my high sustained for almost a whole day after the concert. Nostalgia is finally settling in, though. This is a good time for a little quiet reflection.

Well, in my opinion, the concert was a success. Not just in terms of the music, but also the memories left behind: the wacky moments in NYH, the stupid jokes, the weird Hong Kong accents, and so much more. I regret not being able to have taken photos with everyone...

Yes, I know, I'm starting to sound sappy. Give me license just this once. After all, I'm growing old... I probably don't have many years left as a performing musician... Or many performances left to look forward to...

In the end, it's the small little things that I'll miss. I'll miss meeting Hui Boon, Yen Nee, Alex, etc at Can 2 for dinner at 1800, then dragging our feet up the hill at 1850. I'll miss Kwang Ying aiming her camera phone at different corners of the room during practice. I'll miss Hiong Poh's blurness and and Kat eating her green tea shaved ice with chocolate fudge. I'll miss Eddie's err... interesting breathing. I'll miss getting a plain waffle and Nescafe mocca for a takeaway dinner, and Weicong sniggering about it. I'll miss... I'll miss...

If time spent in NTU CO is an infinite series, then everything in this AY has converged to that point, on 27th Feb, 2000hrs. And now that that point is past, what is there left for us? You might as well say time stopped for us on 27th February. It did for me.

To the NTU CO committee: thanks for being such wonderful people to work with. Especially to our chair and vice-chair, Yen Nee and Sylvia. I wasn't the most cooperative person, but you two were the most understanding. Thanks for your tireless efforts!

To the cello/bass section: I firmly believe that you guys are the most insane, most lame, most amazing section in this CO. You just make it all so worthwhile... For the guests, thanks for taking the time to practice and perform with us. Do come back again, yes? For the members, I will be back with more chocolates (dark, upon Edna's request). Eddie-senpai, thanks for saving my precioussssssssss Fire Wood... I owe you your king crab, or whatever... XD

To Yen Nee and Alex: thanks for helping me out on Friday the Thirteenth. I'm sorry to have burdened you two, and especially during your dinner time... Guess I should thank Eddie too. If not for his presense and my pride, I would probably have spent the whole practice time outside the music room...

To Victoria and Hui Boon: thanks for helping me with the donuts! *hugs*

To Yarong, Mark, JZ, Geng Hui, Cheah Yee, Charlyn, Ivan (Ho), Janet, Ling Shan, Jie Yin, and everyone who came: thanks so much for the support~~ I hope you had as much fun watching as I had performing!

Everyone else, thanks for making those 2.5 hrs of my life so special for me. The euphoria may die off, but the memories will always leave their mark, like "sticky rosin", to quote Soen.

And may the music that we make never fade away...

Everything converges to this point...

And indeed it does... For the last two weeks, I've been more stressed than I ever have in the last year or so. I've skipped more meals, or eaten more improper ones, slept less hours in a day (I think the record was 5mins in 24hrs, though I shouldn't be counting that...), and drank the highest concentration of coffee per day. I've also voiced more expletives, but let's just not go there.

So, the question is, now that I know everything converges to this point, on the 27th Feb 2009, 2000 (GMT+8), so what? Was it effective? Did it pay off? We shall see tonight...

To the 25 people who got tickets from me, thanks! I've coerced, threatened, and bugged some of you until you guys probably hate me now, but your $12 has made me a very happy person, so it's okay if you hate me, I'll still love you~~.

And always, God is faithful~~

Very neglected, I know...

I know some people have been saying about how little I update my blog... Well, too bad... I don't think that many people read my blog anyway... It's more like talking to myself... Which I can do without typing out...

1.5 weeks to concert now... In short, I'm depressed. There are so many things I wish I could do better, especially in terms of my performance skills... But it's a little late to be doing anything about it, so all I can do is mope about it now... Heh, I suspect I'll mope about it more after the concert, but we'll just wait and see about that, eh?

Caught between the sciences and the arts, I wonder where my life is headed...

Having split personality sucks.

Ja ne...

The end of a year (and the start of another) calls for a blog update... I don't know think many people would be interested in knowing how the year has been for me, however, so I'll keep this short.

It was, well, a year of new things: new experiences, new friends, new perspectives. I became of legal age (by Japanese standards, anyway), completed my first year in University, worked my way down my to-read book list, became a proud owner of an NDS, and had my first experience in a string orchestra. I met people who touched my heart and eroded the hikikomori shell, and yet some others who made my skin shiver. Discovered that people are almost never the way they appear to be on first glance. I had my first attempt at cosplaying, and found that it was an extremely stressful, albeit fun, hobby. I learnt that fandoms and music has the magic to break barriers bring the unlikeliest of people together (and I still stand by the hypothesis that cellists are some of the whackiest people on this planet ^_^ v)

I learnt that wonderful things can happen if you have the courage to allow them to.

And so, keeping the smiles close to my heart, I close the chapter of my life story. If I have any regrets, it is only that I did not put more into year 2008. To the people that have walked 2008 with me, I thank you for adding your special touch to my life, be it big or small. We may not meet again, but the memories won't fade.

"変わりゆく季節と
瞬間(とき)の中
懐かしいmelodies
大人になっても
色褪せはしないよ
僕達のprecious memories"

- Stephanie, "Friends" (Gundam 00 2nd ending)

(Through the changing seasons,
And this fleeting moment,
I listen to these nostalgic melodies.
Even when I become an adult,
Some things won't fade,
Like our precious memories.)

For the year 2009, God bless
Cheers
Jovi

Recollections

So the last time I blogged was at the start of the semester. Tomorrow, with my last paper, ends it. Just would like to summarise the last 3 months with a two questions:

If you could follow your dreams, where would you be right now?

If you had the capacity to do anything, what would it be?

I would like to talk about my answers, or rather my thoughts, but perhaps not on a place so public as a blog... So I'll leave you with a clue: noticed I changed the song on my blog? I had three pieces in mind, but decided on this one. I guess you could say it's significant, in more ways than one.

Ja ne~

Squee de gozaru~

*blows dust off blog* Yeah, so this is going to be a recap of my last three months, in which I've been mysteriously absent. I watched lots of anime. That's all I can say. Well, not as much as I would have liked to, but still lots.

Finally got down to Fate/Stay. And Watermelon passed me the whole stack of Rurouni Kenshin she downloaded. It's an old series, I know, but it's something I've wanted to watch ever since I got into anime, about 8 years ago? Also, I finished Blood+ in 8 days. I feel foolish admitting that I only watched it because the soundtrack was produced by Hans Zimmer. And there's a really hot cellist in it. But the animation was good and the storyline was excellent, if a tad depressing, so no complaints at all.

I also got into the Gyakuten Saiban/Phoenix Wright series of DS games. And with that came my first slash pairing... But that's a different story altogether. ^^ Gyakuten Saiban has really good music -- for something that started out as a GBA game. If you like game music, I recommend checking out their Orchestral album. Heck, they even had a concert with the program filled with GS music, and the tickets sold out fast. Which is why they're having another two next month. Wish I could go. No, more than that, I wish I could join the orchestra. Minna-san, if you hear about an orchestra who is planning to perform a Gyakuten Saiban piece, and is looking for cellists, PLEASE tell me. I'll join them without a second thought.

Watermelon-Coconut invited me to the NUS Anime Club's chalet and barbecue. It was fun hanging out with a bunch of otakus, though the guys just sat with their eyes glued to the TV, and their hands to X-Box/PS3 controls, except during meal times. The girls made a spectacular mess in the kitchen (hey, at least the food turned out GOOD) and watching random stuff. It was at that chalet that I watched the vampire movie that is the reason I won't read Stephenie Myer.

It was also at that chalet that I first heard of Rock Musical Bleach, which I am strangely addicted to now, one month later. The songs are rather catchy, even if the singing is just mediocre. Granted, though, it isn't easy to sing and dance/fight. And it isn't easy to find actors who actually look like the characters, who can fight and dance, and who can also sing. The singing gets better as the series of musicals progresses, anyway. I think what I like best about it is the elaborate costumes -- probably the most expensive Bleach cosplay ever. And also, I am convinced that it's not just the people at Sunrise that are perpetually on crack. Whoever wrote the script for the musicals, especially the "omake" bits and the Live Bankai Show, is DEFINITELY on the same kind of high as the people who wrote the Gundam 00 Season Two chibi promo video.

Well anyway, I'm back in school. Very soon, not only will my Calculus textbook bear marks of abuse by Exia, but my Linear Algebra and Statistics textbooks too. And serves them right too.

Benkyou benkyou!!

Holidays squee~~

I've been enjoying my holidays for 2 weeks now. Squee desu~~ The weird thing, I haven't watched much anime. Mostly because I have no idea what to watch. I have a STACK of unwatched anime (last season and earlier) waiting to be graced with the chance to show me its beautiful plotlines and colourful characters. Let's see now: KKM 1 and 2, Code Geass (first season), Shana (1, at the moment), Nana, Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei (also 1 at the moment), NHK ni Youkoso, Trinity Blood, Saiunkoku Monogatari, Juushin Enbu, Fate/Stay Night, Negima, and about 10 episodes or so of Bleach. I think that's all?

By the look of it, I might not be starting the new season anytime soon. Maybe next week when I'm bored with Entrepreneurship. I don't even have to go for the first session to know it's boring. I mean, how fun is being stuck in school from 9am to 5pm for 5 days in a row? They emailed us the lesson plan, and it sounds so technical and eek! Zetsubou shita!!

In other news, I start practice with NTU String Orchestra's Training section next Tuesday~ They're having a recital end June. Minna, come see me if you're free k? On second thoughts, don't. I think I'll be horrible... >.<

As requested by Yarong-chan, here's my schedule. If you want an appointment, make a booking with my secretary (i.e. me). Arigatou~~

every Saturday, 1400-1600, Tuition
every Sunday morning, Church
10/5, Saturday, 0930-1600, Entrepreneurship
12/5-16/5, Mon-Fri, 0900-1700, Entrepreneurship

20/5, Tuesday, 1900-2200, NTU Strings practice
23/5, Friday, 1900-2200, NTU Strings practice
unconfirmed date & time, movie marathon with the Math people

Yup, that's all for May. I have more bookings for June, though I think I'm more free then. Ask me out kay? When I'm free, that is...

Ja ne~
